I bleached my couch

I know, I know, you are shaking your head or saying
"What, who does that?"
Me, of course, it was my solution.

Here's the deets.....

I bought this couch at Macy's home store.
I bought it with hard-earned money, 10 years ago, and it's comfy.
But, as you can see....it faded when I lived in Las Vegas.
Couches fade no matter where you live, but there...you
cannot escape the sun's power.

The couch:

If you remember, I thought about painting it .
Well, that seemed really risky and a ton of work, and
what if I ruined it?

Then, I bought a slipcover, even though all of you told me
that they are messy and a joke.
You could be right, unless you get the perfect size.

I had no other choice.  My couch has it's own slipcover.
I removed each cushion and then the overlay and bleached each
piece separately.  I had really clean, bleach smellin' hands for about 3 days.

That's okay, cuz now my couch looks like this:

It needed pillows to brighten it up a bit.

So, I made 5 of them.

We painted the walls a couple of weeks ago and now I am working on
the final details like wall prints and the little things.

I am hoping to reveal the whole room soon.

Stick around for that...oh, and I am gonna do a couple giveaways too!

Y'all come back now, yah hear?

Toodles...

  6. Hi, I just found your blog. Funny, you should mention bleaching your couch. You had me so freakin' excited for a minute there. But, you meant bleaching the covers! Great idea in itself. My problem is that I don't have my entire couch is fabric, and I would love to change the color (it is a faded dusty rose). I was actually thinking the other day of trying to bleach or dye it another color, and my husband thought I would end up with a lot of "blotchyness".

I am your newest follower. Would love to have you "stop by" my blog sometime if you get a chance and follow back! I'm a newbie, so still tweaking!

  8. Hi there! I did bleach my slipcovers once...we had a white couch before my son was born. After several projectile vomiting on said couch I tried washing the slipcovers but there were some stains that would not come out. I bleached them. And it worked. Not the same as what you did (which was very gutsy, by the way).
Fast forward a few years and my kitchen table chairs were awfully dirty. I bleached the fabric, WHILE ON THE COUCH. Worked like a charm. They were also an off whitish color.
    :)
    Bleach...it's the new dye! LOL

  11. I'm so glad you wrote about this. I have a white fabric sofa and the kids have done a number on it. I would love to give this a try. How long did you leave the covers in the bleach and did you dilute?
